about ME

I am a Lisbon based Portuguese artist.

My love for drawing emerged by the hand of my Grandmother when I was only a toddler. We would spend afternoons sketching and colouring until we lost track of time.

As I grew older, divided by my passion for art and architecture I decided to become an architect - being sure painting was already part of myself.

After graduating I moved to London to take an MSc in Urban Design.

There I ended up meeting incredible people, namely Colin Fournier at the Bartlett, Tim Hatton and Clive Pendlebury at THA Architects.

All 3 influenced greatly my critical eye toward the urban fabric.

Although I did not have formal art training, I never stopped painting, even when studying Architecture. I took several Short Courses at the Slade School of Fine Art, mostly between 1998-2003. I also had the opportunity to be tutored by Andy Pankhurst who taught me the importance of light on the canvas.

In the early 90's, my canvases were figurative and painted with oil sticks. Soon after the Slade years, I was perfecting my technique with spatulas and brushes. At that time, I focused more on Life Painting and Portraits.

During my first pregnancy, I had to change to acrylic medium which, initially made me rather reluctant as the outcome would be somewhat different. Unexpectedly, I became absolutely fascinated by its immediacy and end result. This came at a time where I managed to marry my art with architecture by painting mostly urban landscapes and building details.

Around 2009 I took painting to a professional level and decided to endure all the challenges that come with living from Art.

By then I had only done a couple of small exhibitions and in 2010 I put together my biggest solo exhibition - Detalhes Quotidianos - in Lisbon.

My passion for travelling and search for inspiration led me to embark on a Round The World Trip in 2010-11 where I had the opportunity to learn and borrow knowledge from native cultures.

Over the past years I am still materialising memories from that trip, as well as working on bespoke paintings. From time to time, I put together some work which I exhibit in my studio.

In a nutshell, I am painting colourful canvases that mirror my experience and passion for beautiful simple things - in the way I envisage the world!
